This blog has been created for Lakes residents in Hollywood, Florida to voice their opinions and concerns about excessive vehicular volume, speeding, stopsign running, and the construction project that is making a bad situation even worse. Hopefully our local politicians will read the concerns of the same people that voted them into office. We want action!!!

Traffic Flow and Rerouting Traffic

What is the City of Hollywood doing about the traffic flow and rerouting traffic? I live on 13th Avenue and I do not believe that anybody has ever asked for my opinion...Oh wait. One of my neighbors reminded me of a questionairre that the City of Hollywood sent out to homeowners abour 4 years ago. Yes...they did in fact ask for my opinion.

In fact, every homeowner with whom I have spoken has told me that they have called the City to protest the traffic rerouting to 13th Avenue.

The City told me that I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS COMPLAINED. Can you believe that?

  1. "Constricting" traffic is much more appropriate than "rerouting" traffic. Be aware that FDOT is funded by tax revenues from the sales of vehicular fuels. FDOT conspires to "constrict" traffic such that vehicles burn more fuel simply to increase the amount of money they have available to pay out in the form of kickbacks to the bureaucratic hypocrites in city gov. Consider just the prolonged logjam at the drawbridges and how the bridge tenders horrendously draw out the length of time that traffic is stalled unnecessarily. This is just one infinitesimal example of the atrocious waste of fuel and pollution of the air we breathe just so FDOT has more money to bribe corrupt managers to allow them to get away with this disgusting practice...

  2. I have lived on the cornor of 13th Ave. and Madison St. for more than 30 years. During Oct. and Nov. of 2009, a car drove across my lawn 8 different times during the night (I reported this to Hollywood police twice). I have no idea who would do this or even if this was the same vehicle each time. Following the recent closure of the Hollywood Blvd./13th Ave. intersection for construction purposes, this activity ceased.
Because of the marked increase in traffic on 13th and this experience, I support the proposal to limit north/south traffic on 13th with a median on Hollywood Blvd. Has no one even considered the fact that much of 13th has no curbs or sidewalks for walkers, runners, dog owners or those pushing baby carriages? This is not the place for heavy traffic!!!

  3. I have considered the lack of sidewalks and curbs many times. I have even approached the City about curbs and they wanted me to pay for the curbs. Sidewalks are somewhat of a selective thing. Some homeowners are required to install sidewalks and some just aren't...no rhyme or reason. Didn't the City consider sidewalks with the expected increase in vehicular traffic??? I guess not.

    > Dear Don,
    > I will forward your thoughts to our City Manager. Our City did not engineer the restructuring of Hollywood Blvd., this was done by Florida Department of Transportation. They spent at least 5 years engineering the plan they have in place. I do not know if there can be any changes at this point, Hollywood Blvd should be done by late March. I will look into this situation and we will let you know.

  6. Business as usual. The politicians just pass it on to other and give excuses. You would think that Patty Asseff would TRY to do something about the situation. She just shrugs it off as somebody else's problem. Thanks for all of your help Patty.

I hope all of Hollywood pays attention, they may be the next residents with a problem!
